
DR. GELMAN
Dr. Rachel Gelman is a board-certified, fellowship trained, ophthalmologist, specializing in cornea, LASIK, and cataract surgery. She currently serves patients at her practice in McAllen, Texas, and is the only ophthalmologist performing cornea transplants in the Rio Grande Valley. Born and raised in McAllen, Texas, she attended the University of Texas-Pan American, where she graduated summa cum laude. She then earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, one of the top ranking medical schools in the nation. Following this, Dr. Gelman did her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Arizona, where she served as chief resident her senior year. She then completed a fellowship in cornea, anterior segment, and refractive surgery at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at the University of California, Irvine. Throughout her training, Dr. Gelman has authored several publications in ophthalmology. She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society. A proficient pianist, Dr. Gelman has enjoyed playing the piano since the age of five. She is fond of traveling and immersing herself in new and unfamiliar cultures and languages, but her favorite pastime is spending time with her family.
